Mourning the "Boss" ~ Therese Baumgärtel 1909-2007

I received email this morning from our cousin, Helmut Windschiegl, who gave me the sad news of the death of my last surviving aunt, Tante Therese. She is the last of the Lindner brothers and sisters. Helmut later sent me the newspaper article about his "Oma" - here is the translation of that article. The death notice is above.

Mourning the "Boss"
Therese Baumgärtel Died Sunday at 97 Years of Age

Windischeschenbach. Cafe Baumgärtel is an institution in the town. And so also was Senior Chef, Therese Baumgärtel, who in colloquial speech, was simply known as "the Boss."

Opening in 1936 with her husband, Fritz Baumgärtel, the customer friendly cafe was not only a beloved meeting place in the town for young and old, but also was known far beyond the town boundaries.

On Sunday evening, the "Boss" gave her life back into the hands of her Savior, after battling heath problems for about two months. In five weeks, on April 7th, she would have been 98 years old.

Not only will her two daughters Ursula and Hermine and their families mourn for the deceased, but also the many regular customers and friends of the house.

Two week ago, Therese Baumgärtel was still indulging in her passion for playing rummy! Sometimes it could even go on until midnight.

The legacy that Therese Baumgärtel leaves behind is that of the future: "We are going to the Boss."

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Emmeram Church, followed by the burial.
