A Limburger Cheese Thanksgiving!

Sue and Ricky hosted Thanksgiving again this year. We had a mouthwatering assortment of dishes that included Sue's turkey burgers and macaroni and cheese, Ricky's scrimmage, pumpkin beer, cranberry juice and assorted other goodies. I fixed a yummy apple crisp as my contribution to the meal. But the tour de force had to be the Limburger Cheese spread!

Yes, folks, Ricky took the perilous step to duplicate this Lindner Family recipe. He had been threatening to try out Freddie's famous delicacy for a long time, so several months ago, Ricky and Sue began searching high and low, in specialty stores, gourmet and grocery stores for just the right kind of Limburger cheese worthy of this spread.

Unfortunately, their search proved in vain and they had to settle for a lesser Limburger. The stench was there alright; Ricky had to take the usual precautions to keep the house livable. When he finally mixed all the ingredients together on the day before Thanksgiving, the smell was so rank that Ricky had to place the sealed container on the back porch so that their home's welcoming atmosphere would not be destroyed!

Only a few of us had the fortitude to try it. Actually, it was quite good despite not having the correct version of cheese; and Ricky's own addition of garlic to the recipe enhanced the flavor. Fortunately, the cadaver-ine smell had disappeared by the time we opened the container so none of us had to ask for gas masks in order to nibble. Ricky has promised that the next batch he makes will have the authentic Limburger cheese.

The rest of the afternoon was spent watching football which is the only thing to do after stuffing oneself on such good food!
