My Victory Bike!
When I was a little girl of about 8 or 9 years old, I received a red bicycle as a birthday gift from my parents. It was in the middle of WWII at the time and new bicycles were very utilitarian and spare in looks. Little rubber and chrome were used in constructing these bikes because all these materials were needed for the war effort. These bikes were called Victory Bikes and more information about them can be found here. My brother also had one and it was a lean mean machine!
I had had a small two wheeler (a sidewalk bike) a few years earlier but this bike was so much bigger, it appeared that I would have to learn how to ride all over again. So, out on the sidewalk, my Dad helped me sit on the seat and put my feet on the pedals and off we went with his hand on the seat to steady me and then, he gave me a push!
I wobbled around to gain my balance; but not looking where I was headed, ran right into a telephone pole!

ouch! I like your blog, is it new or am I just not paying attention?
I had a bike about that same time, it was maroon as I remember. I don't recall if it was a Victory Bike or not.
I see I'm pearlofohio here.... wonder how that happened? I am thinking of switching to gmail as my main addy for various reasons...yahoo is too limiting, I like gmail's star system of various colors.
Hi Pat! I started this blog in 2006 but did little with it after the first few years. I did only one post last year, I think. I am trying to resurrect it and put my memoirs online using this space. We'll see... Thanks for your remarks...
